The Body Work course

We are proud to offer our brilliant new body work course, using body work to help manage your mental health & build a good relationship with yourself and your body. It’s a step by step guide into mastering and using body work. It will take you through easy to do and simply explained experiments to help you tune in and learn to listen to what your body is telling you. The course will take you through how to recognise negative and positive responses, which play such a huge part in our decision making, setting boundaries and generally taking care of ourselves. It will teach you how to connect with yourself from the inside, opening up your curiosity and encouraging growth from within.

We designed this course for you to be able to connect back with your body, learning what is helpful for you and what isn’t, so you gain back control of your mental health. This course will help you notice and understand the signals your body is sending you. It will help you have a better relationship with yourself and help you feel more connected to your body.

What is body work?

We all have a body but so much of its inner workings are a mystery to us. Some things just happen, breathing digestion, circulation, brain functioning etc, it all happens in our subconscious. However, the more we can be conscious of, the more we can understand ourselves and help our body to function better. The first step is consciously paying attention and listening to what is going on in our body. Feeling ourselves squeeze and release our muscles lets us be in a mindful part of this simple process. Learning to be curious about the sensations inside, from our stomach, to our shoulders, our legs, arms and breath. When we can notice and feel, we can observe how it changes when we get scared or anxious, there will be subtle changes which we can actually manage and help.

Body work is an alternative therapy to talking therapy. If we struggle with things like trauma or anxiety, they are felt in the body, the reactions happen in the body. In order for us to really heal we can’t just focus on the mind, the body needs to be taken into account. When we focus on the body, it automatically helps with your mind and your thoughts. Body work is trying different experiments and resources to raise our awareness and curiosity. It gets us away from just thinking to noticing and feeling. If you struggle with your emotions, when you can bring up just a little bit of emotion, you can start to notice where this shows up in your body, then just practice sitting with it. It can help you build up your tolerance for having feelings and emotions. It can also help us recognise which emotions we are experiencing.

Who is this course for?

This course is for everyone, whether you are trying to solve some issues, wanting to gain some understanding of yourself or wanting to find new ways to navigate through life. It’s for people who just want to expand their knowledge, grow, develop and be the best version of themselves possible. We all benefit from working on a better relationship with our bodies.

This course is for you if you are serious about making a change in your life and are willing to try something different. It’s a great way to access therapy if you can’t yet do so but you want to or need to, but you feel like you might not be ready for 1-1, as it has been designed by our sensorimotor psychotherapist, Catriona. This is also for you if you have tried talking therapy in the past but you found it hasn’t worked or didn’t help. If you feel very disconnected from yourself and your body, and you struggle with emotions and controlling them, this course is perfect for you!

This is for anyone who feels like aspects of their lives feel out of control and you want some direction and help to make sense of the chaos and get back in control. It’s for anyone who wants to learn to manage your own mental health and be the one in control of your life. It’s a great course to help manage your mental health or anxiety on a day-to-day basis. Most importantly, it’s for anyone who would just love to know more about who they are!

What’s included in the course?

  • A range of psycho-education that breaks down jargon and demystifies without overwhelming you, spread out amongst exercises.
  • It includes a step-by-step course built up of 13 sections, which take you through many different, safe ways of learning to feel things in your body, recognising what your body is communicating to you and learning what the different messages can tell you.
  • It also includes two mindful body scans, to get you started with learning to check in with yourself and your body day-to-day.
  • It also includes two extra sections for you to use anytime they are needed. The first is a guided journal section where we help you through a bad mental health day and show you how to manage it, where you can begin to understand patterns and behaviours of yourself and where it might be coming from. The second bonus section takes you through managing your panic attacks and anxiety, giving you back control of yourself.
  • The course is a packed 80 pages that will transform your relationship with yourself and give you an understanding of yourself you didn’t know existed.

What will it cover?

This course covers easy to understand, but thorough psycho-education about how your nervous system works, showing you how your brain and body are affected by the experiences you have throughout life. It explains and shows you why we have developed certain behaviours and coping mechanisms. This course will take you through each step and help you recognise what is happening inside your body, both when it’s under stress and also when it’s relaxed. It covers mindful body scans and helps you keep a personal record of the things that really help you build resilience and deal with stress. We will teach you how to listen to your body and the signals you might be getting from it, covering breathing, body and mind in simple and safe steps.

What will this course do for you?

This course will teach you how to be the master of yourself, your body and your brain, helping you have a better relationship with yourself. It will connect you to yourself in ways you have never before experienced, introducing you to a new way of working with yourself. Allowing you to understand yourself from the inside out. This course will enhance your life, not just deal with the problems. 

It will help you manage stress, being more emotionally available and teach you how to not be so critical about yourself. It will give you insight into the way you are in relationships and it will help you make the changes you want, at your own pace. It will allow you to do this in a very supported way and have everything explained every step of the way. You will discover some remarkable things about yourself and the best thing is, you’ll really like doing it. This is a great way to learn who you really are and why you might feel and behave in certain ways.

Something to be aware of

This course isn’t a solution to dealing with complex or serious trauma, but it’s the foundation steps you will need in order to do the more complex work. This also isn’t a quick-fix solution course, understanding you and your mental health takes time, healing is a journey.
